Here is a pattern for a 16th century scholar’s cap that I made, and thought that some of you might find useful. The PDF prints out full-size, which uses nine sheets of letter sized paper, but not a lot of ink. (As printer friendly as I could make it.) You will need to tape the pages together with a 3/4″ overlap, but then it’s ready to use!
you will need to draw around the pattern and then add 1/2′ seam allowance all around. It’s best made from very sturdy wool.
If I ever write out assembly instructions I may eventually have it up for sale, but right now – it’s free! It fits a size 23.5″ head, and is not graded for multiple sizes – it’s just the one size. Many of the images with this cap show it over a black coif-like thing, which this pattern does not make.
Enjoy!
(You do have to register on my site in order to download it for free. Sorry – I really don’t know how to turn that off, or I would.)
This pattern is superb. It prints out perfectly and easily aligns, and everything fits together. I could have used a teensy bit of instruction – like “sew to here” on CF, and a note to insert ribbon before stitching on facing, but with the help of the photos I eventually figured it out. Thank you very much for making this pattern available.
Great pattern! It took a bit to figure out how it worked but not to hard! Thank you 🙂
